Stomydo is a company dedicated to fulfilling the needs of stoma patients. They collaborated with these stoma patients to develop a product that is practical, hygienic, and comfortable to use; the stomashower.
But how were they going to introduce this product to the public?

The case

Stomydo is a medical supply organisation focussed on stoma patients. They provide high quality products to care for the skin and stoma. They developed a new product together with stoma patients; the stomashower. But how do you introduce such a specific product to the market? How do you position, communicate and introduce this product? Appart Media started to work on an overall concept in order to answer these questions. We analysed the target group, branch and product from both a strategic and artistic point of view. This resulted in a deeper understanding of Stomydo’s position and made us able to create the best ideas. We then had a strong foundation to create the right strategy and advice for their needs.

Research

Stomydo had already analysed their market and gathered this information in a report. Appart Media started from there. We evaluated their report and used it as a foundation for our own research. All the acquired information was used to define a new strategy and position. With this we wrote a marketing plan. This gave them a more fitting strategy, position and use of communication, both offline and on social media. Our plan created the perfect balance between the story of Stomydo and the needs of their target group.

Idea

The stomashower is more than just a product. It contributes to the users daily life, thanks to its ease of use. The idea of the stomashower revolved around improving the daily life of a stoma patient. It was important they would be able to enjoy their life like they used to. The most important factor was the skin; to improve its condition and care.

Appart Media did not only work on Stomydo’s position in the market, they also gave advice on their communication. To suit Stomydo’s new position, we designed a fitting corporate identity and website. Their new identity attracted their stakeholders and target audience. Soon, stoma patients asked for more information and a test version of the product. Health insurance companies reached out to Stomydo, looking for ways to make the stomashower available for various healthcare institutions and insurances. The stomashower was featured on various online media platforms, including Dutch Television. The exposure was not limited to our country, it even crossed borders to Australia and The United Kingdom!

Stomydo’s website attracted 11.000 unique visitors and 36.500 views. After an interview with Dutch paper ‘The Limburger’ the number of visitors in October rose to 243 visitors a day! Their Facebook page reached many people and the number of followers increased. A campaign was set up to promote the product even further. Stoma patients could test the stomashower for free. More than 50 people requested a test. We received the ultimate recognition for our work and commitment, when they became second at the Zinnige Zorg Award contest by health insurer VGZ.

A magazine was then designed to embrace Stomydo’s new concept and strategy. Stomydo uses this as sales tool. The magazine was distributed among stoma patients and is now used as a personal introduction to the stomashower.

Award

Stomydo was nominated for the VGZ ‘Zinnige Zorg Award’ in May 2017. This award puts the spotlight on products that improve and innovate our healthcare. The stomashower was one of those products. Votes had to be acquired in order to win this award. Both Stomydo and its partners, including Appart Media, worked hard to find supporters of the stomashower.
We worked together with Stomydo to record a vlog where we urged people to vote for the stomashower. Social media was used to reach large groups of people.

In addition to this silver award, Stomydo received not only financial support, but further assistance regarding the development of their product and raising their brand awareness as well.
